Accessories - Back Pillows

Materials used in these examples:
  • Hard foam core
  • Fluffy jackets
  • Not-too-soft pillows from home
The support must be securely fastened to the backrest.

Back supported by foam blockPurpose:
To provide stable low back, as well as mid, and upper back support.

Concern:
The student cannot get low back support. There can be many reasons why a back rest on a chair cannot be used.

Solution:
A hard foam core block was fastened to the chair temporarily. The material is usually used for pillows in boats. Jan Langsdorf, a computer teacher came up with the idea!. (See Acknowledgments).

Jacket covering back of seatPurpose:
To cover edges on the backrest

Concern:
The edges of the chair were sharp.

Solution:
Leaving a soft jacket over the backrest made it more comfortable.

Before After Case Study
Unsupported back Back supported with foam block The seat pan was too deep and backrest tilt angle too large.

The back pillow provided support and allowed the student to sit a little straighter with feet flat on the floor.

He still needs to sit a bit higher up for a more comfortable keyboarding posture. Look at booster seats, too.
