See Appendix B for help in answering the extended response assignments.

Assignment 1:

Identify at least two engineering or management controls that may eliminate or reduce exposure to hazardous chemicals in a workplace.

Assignment 2: Read the following scenario and discuss the reasons the OSHA inspector cited this condition as a container labeling violation.

At 10:00 AM, an employee in vehicle service area transferred some cleaning solvent from a primary container to a coffee can. He immediately began using the solvent to clean some auto parts. At 10:30 AM he decided to go on a 15 minute break and walked away from his area over to the lunch room on the other side of the facility. As luck may have it, at the same time, an OR-OSHA inspector began her inspection of the employer's workplace. About 10 minutes into the inspection the compliance officer entered the vehicle service area and noticed a coffee can containing unidentified liquid substance. Just then, the employee came back from lunch and, when asked by the inspector, he identified the liquid as solvent. As a result, the compliance officer cited the employer for a violation.

Assignment 3: You've been assigned responsibility for training new employees on the general requirements of the Hazard Communication Program. List each required subject you would teach and describe the method you would use to train that subject.
