Extension Requests

Extensions are available through OR-OSHA. If you are unable to correct a violation by the abatement time on your citation, you may request an extension. This must be received by the OR-OSHA field office no later than the required correction date of the violation(s) as printed on the citation.

In order to obtain an extension, you must submit your request, in writing, to the field office, listed on the upper left corner of your citation. This may be done by filling out the on-line extension request, or writing a letter which includes all of the following information:

  1. The employer's name and address
  2. The site address (where inspection occurred)
  3. The inspection number (on citation)
  4. The violation number for which an extension is requested. (on citation)
  5. The reason an extension is being requested
  6. What efforts have been made to correct the violation
  7. Steps being taken to safeguard employees from the hazard(s) until the corrections are completed
  8. The date which violations will be abated
  9. A statement that a copy of the extension request has been posted as required by OAR 437-001-275(2)(j).

OAR 437-001-275(2)(j) states "A copy of any request for extension of correction date shall be posted until the Administrator informs the employer the extension has been granted or denied." For more information on posting requirements, please visit Posting Requirements.
