The Rules
This video contest is designed to increase teen on-the-job safety awareness using the overall theme "Save a friend. Work safe." Students are encouraged to develop a key message or slogan, use humor, and get creative while emphasizing ways to protect themselves (and their friends) at work.
By entering this contest, entrants agree to abide by the following rules:
Production rules
- Create a video with a teen on-the-job safety and health message using the concept of "Speak Up!" as the main focus of your video. "Speak Up!" has many applications. See the "What we want" page for more details about how to use this message effectively in your video.
- Your video submission must also include the tagline, "Save a friend. Work safe."
- You must maintain personal health and safety for your cast, crew, and others working on the video. Do not endanger anyone in the making of your video.
- Participants must be high school students who live in Oregon.
- All footage, including music, must be originally created material or you must obtain proper, legal permission to use someone else's copyrighted material.
- If your video identifies a specific business, you must obtain and submit their written permission with your entry form.
- The running time for each entry must be 45 seconds.
- Entrants grant the project the right to use their names, photographs, and video submissions for advertising, publicity and promotion purposes, and to spread the word on young worker safety.
Submission rules
- Your entry must be clearly and legibly labeled with the title of the production, name(s) of filmmaker(s), and your school's name. (Homeschooled students should simply state "homeschooled".)
- Each entry must be accompanied by an entry form and be submitted on a DVD. The preferred format is .mpg or .mp4 with a minimum 640 x 480 aspect ratio.
- Fill out the forms electronically and then print. (Handwritten forms will not be accepted.)
- All participants, including producers, actors, musicians, and anyone else whose image or sound is on your submission, must be listed on a signed entry form that is sent along with the video.
- Everyone under 18 years of age who appears on screen must have a parent's or guardian's signature. These forms must be completed for you to receive your prize money should you be one of the contest winners.
- Complete the information about your school and teacher on the entry form, so if you win, we can give a matching donation to your school and kudos to your teacher when they assign, encourage, or enable participation in the contest. We won't be able to provide a matching donation if you are not enrolled in school or are homeschooled.
- Submit a copy of the original; make sure you keep the original version of your submission.
- Videos must be 45 seconds in length.
- Entries will not be accepted if they are late, damaged, or can't be viewed because of technical error.
- O[yes] is not responsible for entries that are delayed, lost, misdirected, incomplete, damaged, or destroyed.
- No entries will be returned.
- All entries become the property of Oregon OSHA.
- All entries must be postmarked or hand delivered no later than 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2012.
